Count Us In

November 12, 2021 Admin Dwr

The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26) in Glasgow is wrapping up today  prompting us to look forward. An initiative organized as part of the Conference was “TAKE A STEP”. The challenge was to “build the world’s largest community of people and organizations taking practical action on climate change”. In Dŵr Uisce, that is what we are doing. As a cluster of researchers and practitioners, we have been working together to take research-based collaborative action to reduce the carbon footprint of water production, distribution, and use. In many ways, we are ahead of the game with running installations in working settings saving water, recovering energy and reducing carbon emissions. Will our work change the world? No, but that’s not the point. Rather, our work demonstrates what is possible through an accumulation of small steps where we uncover multiple opportunities to make small gains. Metaphorically (and with deep respect for elephants), how do you eat an elephant? A bite at a time! The work of Dŵr Uisce, innovating in micro-hydro power and drain water heat recovery, are two of those “bites”.

Mae 26ain Cynhadledd Partïon Newid Hinsawdd y Cenhedloedd Unedig (COP26) yn Glasgow yn gorffen heddiw gan ein hannog i edrych ymlaen. Menter a drefnwyd fel rhan o'r Gynhadledd oedd “CYMRYD CAM”. Yr her oedd “i adeiladu cymuned fwyaf y byd o pobl a sefydliadau yn cymryd camau ymarferol ar newid yn yr hinsawdd”. Yn Dŵr Uisce, dyna yr ydym yn ei wneud. Fel clwstwr o ymchwilwyr ac ymarferwyr, rydym wedi bod yn gweithio gyda'n gilydd i gymryd camau cydweithredol ar sail ymchwil i leihau ôl troed carbon cynhyrchu, dosbarthu, a defnyddio dŵr. Mewn sawl ffordd, rydym ar y blaen trwy ein gwaith o roi technoleg mewn lleoliadau gwaith er mwyn arbed dŵr, adfer ynni, a lleihau allyriadau carbon. A fydd ein gwaith yn newid y byd? Na, ond nid dyna'r pwynt. Yn hytrach, mae ein gwaith yn dangos yr hyn sy'n bosibl trwy gymryd cyfuniad o gamau bach. Yn drosiadol (a chyda pharch dwfn at eliffantod), sut ydych chi'n bwyta eliffant? Fesul darn bach! Mae gwaith Dŵr Uisce, sy'n arloesi mewn pŵer micro-hydro ac adfer gwres dŵr draen, yn ddau o'r "darnau" hynny.
