Small-scale Hydropower Installation at Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant - Official Opening

This event will launch a small hydropower installation from Afon Wybrnant, which is expected to generate about 19,000 kWh of clean renewable electricity per year for lighting and heating Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant, saving approximately 5.2 tonnes of CO2 per year and allowing the National Trust to maintain a culturally significant collection more sustainably.

The installation demonstrates not only the environmental benefits of the scheme (low impact on the ecosystem and CO2 savings) but also to prove the economic attractiveness of such small-scale hydro generation. We believe that this will serve as a very useful demonstration site for others to replicate elsewhere.

Please come along to see this exciting launch that is part of a project involving the National Trust, Bangor University, and Trinity College Dublin. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Ireland-Wales Cooperation programme 2014-2020.
